The light is mysterious in this painting. Perhaps that's because I originally planned a brilliant blue sky. The deep red has a presence all its own. The next step is making the sky glow and retreat, all at the same time. That will also challenge the existing light on the landscape to some extent.
I've been working on Adriana, the foreground figure. Her dress, although loose, defines her body. Her face has all the structural elements and expression - I just need to layer a translucent skin over it without sacrificing the strong sense of light.
Painting an image that originates in one's imagination is fascinating. Making it seem "real" is the goal.
